MCI Private IP to link 90 sites across six continents
HELSINKI, Finland, 29 June, 2005 - MCI, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced that the international stainless steel and technology company Outokumpu Oyj has selected MCI to link its 90 sites in 33 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, and the U.S. using MCI Private IP, its network-based MPLS-solution.
"Outokumpu selected MCI because they could provide us with increased WAN capacity more cost effectively, which we can scale in our business environment changes. MCI's flexibility and ability to provide a solution that suited our requirements was a key factor for us," said Juha Koljonen, Vice President of IT Infrastructure, Outokumpu Group.
To connect marketing and sales offices, production plants and research centres, Outokumpu will use MCI Private IP for its mission-critical data traffic. This will significantly decrease network costs, increase network capacity and provide a consolidated network outside the Nordics, all backed by a unified service level agreement (SLA).
MCI Private IP is a high-performance, reliable network that offers maximum flexibility, security and connectivity. It carries all types of traffic on a single virtual private network (VPN) - voice, data, business-critical data, video and e-mail - and provides a strategic platform for IP convergence. Each traffic type is managed according to its individual service level requirements over a single connection, which efficiently consolidates bandwidth use.
In 2004, MCI announced that its Private IP solution is a certified Cisco Powered Network service. The MCI Private IP network has been expanded to cover 183 sites in 48 countries worldwide. Frame Relay and ATM access into the Private IP network is also available from existing locations in more than 70 countries.
"This is another example of how MCI's global reach and innovative communication services, combined with the expertise of our local sales organisations, can create tangible benefits for our customers," said Pekka Inkinen, country leader for MCI in Finland. "Outokumpu's decision to select MCI as their communication provider underlines our strong commitment to customer service and client satisfaction."
