A study by HIMSS Analytics found that two-thirds of health IT executives it surveyed indicate that the use of mobile technology will substantially or dramatically impact the delivery of healthcare in the future.
With the increased use of mobile phones by healthcare professionals, healthcare IT personnel need a secure, cost-effective way to manage mobile devices, especially for on-the-go employees such as affiliated physicians and field healthcare providers who need to access critical information as they move between homes, offices, clinics and hospitals.
With the launch of the BlackBerry Q10, healthcare organizations can leverage the BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10) Regulated Service on the Verizon high-speed 4G LTE network, to help increase access to vital medical data while addressing patient privacy and security requirements.
“Delivering secure patient data in today’s mobile environment is riddled with privacy and security concerns,” said Mike Ross, director of healthcare mobility solutions for Verizon Enterprise Solutions. “BES10 Regulated running on Verizon’s wireless network gives healthcare IT staff the control, flexibility and reassurance they need to securely provide key information and tools to their care teams.”
Key features that BES10 Regulated includes to help reduce risk, safeguard data and simplify deployment for healthcare IT staff include:
Added Security
- S/MIME Encryption—Email and file attachments are signed and encrypted using the industry standard.
- Communication Logging—Track and log all BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), PIN-to-PIN, SMS and MMS (text) messages; voice calls; and video calls to meet regulatory requirements and capture data leaks.
Control
- Hardware Control—Disable specific hardware components, including USB mass storage, camera, video, HDMI, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to meet regulation policies.
- Control Network Connectivity—Track and manage employee network access and Internet usage on mobile devices. Ability to enforce a single browser ensures all Internet traffic flows through the organization’s network, and audits employee Internet use to control content being viewed on corporate assets.
- Application Management— Deploy and manage healthcare applications. Control use of non-approved apps, including video services and social-based tools.
