WorldCom And America West Airlines Turn Frequent Calling Into Frequent Flying
ARLINGTON, Va./Phoenix, AZ-June 1, 2000 -WorldCom and America
West Airlines have announced a new marketing partnership that enables
America West Airlines frequent flyers to begin earning America West
Airlines FlightFund® miles for an everyday activity - talking on the
phone. Effective immediately, new and existing MCI WorldCom residential
customers, as well as small business customers, have the option to
accrue FlightFund miles for communications services offered by
WorldCom.
The new marketing partnership allows FlightFund program members to
earn miles toward their next award flight even faster by giving them
five miles for every dollar spent on MCI WorldCom's residential
services (excluding taxes, credits and surcharges). In addition,
WorldCom offers a special sign-up bonus of 2,000 miles for new
customers who enroll in the MCI WorldCom/FlightFund program.
The new program is made more valuable to consumers by the fact that
miles are posted directly to each FlightFund member's account.
Every month, WorldCom automatically credits the customer's frequent
flyer account, eliminating the hassle of redeeming points or mailing in
statements.
Customers can enroll online at www.mci.com/awa or by calling
1-877-MCI-FUND (1-877-624-3863) (U.S.) or 712-943-6839 (overseas
collect).
"WorldCom's partnership with America West Airlines gives
our customers a new alternative for earning frequent flyer miles,"
said Michael Sauer, vice president of partner marketing at WorldCom.
"This partnership program rewards members of the FlightFund
program in two ways: by delivering advanced communication products and
services - including providing domestic long distance rates of just 5
cents a minute and global calling cards - as well as by offering the
ability to earn FlightFund miles for WorldCom services. By using
WorldCom, America West Airlines' FlightFund members can easily
accumulate miles and receive great low rates at the same
time."
"This partnership with WorldCom will offer our customers a new
and exciting way to earn miles toward free worldwide travel," said
Mike Smith, America West senior vice president, marketing and sales.
"We look forward to working closely with WorldCom to exceed our
mutual customers' expectations."
FlightFund, America West's worldwide frequent flyer program,
offers travelers a unique and flexible program featuring First Class
upgrades and free worldwide award travel. New members will receive
2,500 miles after their first flight. Awards begin at 20,000 miles.
Customers who are not already FlightFund members can contact the
