WorldCom Introduces Private Label DSL Service for Large Enterprises and Internet Service Providers
WorldCom's Nationwide DSL Network Provides Seamless Connectivity for Speakeasy and ClearPath
CLINTON, Miss., June 13, 2002 - WorldCom (NASDAQ: WCOM), the leading global business data and Internet communications provider, today announced it has commercially launched Private Label DSL services for U.S businesses and Internet Service Providers. These services enable WorldCom customers to provide cost effective and reliable broadband access solutions to their customers, remote offices and end users. Speakeasy, a national broadband services company, and ClearPath, a VPN service company for small to mid-size businesses, are among WorldCom's first Private Label DSL customers.
Available in 31 major metropolitan markets, through 709 Central Offices, WorldCom's Private Label DSL gives customers bulk access to WorldCom's nationwide, facilities-based DSL network while branding the service as their own. This provides customers with cost-effective broadband access to WorldCom's award-winning global IP network, which spans six continents.
"With WorldCom's Private Label DSL solution, companies can quickly and easily expand their broadband service offerings," said Frank Grillo, senior vice president of Business Marketing for WorldCom. " WorldCom's Private Label DSL customers immediately benefit from WorldCom's nationwide DSL footprint, an end-to-end DSL solution and direct connections to the world's most expansive global IP network."
Speakeasy, which has delivered high-quality broadband services to residential and business customers in major U.S. markets since 1999, will leverage its new relationship with WorldCom to expand the company's DSL network, creating one of the largest and deepest nationwide service areas in the country. Additionally, WorldCom's renowned data capabilities and high-speed transport provide a stable backbone for Speakeasy to expand its service offerings in the future.
By utilizing WorldCom's DSL network, Speakeasy will also be able to offer its residential customers 1.5mbps/768kbps service levels. In addition to Speakeasy's premium connectivity, customers benefit from an array of differentiated and personalized features, including security, privacy, entertainment and professional services.
"The WorldCom relationship builds on Speakeasy's mission to bring an affordable, compelling Internet experience to residential and business users," said Michael Apgar, Speakeasy's CEO. "We are building a strong foundation of strategic partnerships for our existing markets as we continue to explore additional broadband opportunities."
ClearPath has been able to effectively utilize WorldCom's Private Label DSL services to ensure its customers have a cost effective connection to ClearPath's nationwide fiber optic network, which combines the power of ATM with the performance-enhancing capabilities of multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) technology. ClearPath enables its customers to affordably distribute applications over its iVPN, a line of network-based virtual private network services targeting the small and mid-size business market.
