WorldCom To Build German National Frame Relay Network To Major Commercial Centers"
HANOVER, GERMANY, (March 12, 1997) --
WorldCom, Inc. announced today that it will build a national frame
relay network in Germany. The frame relay network will connect seven
major commercial centers -- Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin,
Hanover, Dusseldorf, Hamburg -- to WorldCom's international
network which carries frame relay traffic to more than 35 countries
and 80 cities worldwide.
WorldCom established its data presence in Germany during 1994,
when the company installed its first frame relay switch in Frankfurt.
Since that time, multinational companies have been using
WorldCom's international frame relay network to transport traffic
to and from Germany's key financial center.
"We are pleased to expand our frame relay services throughout
Germany by building a national frame relay network," said Stefan
Hischer, managing director of WorldCom Germany. "The German
market is proving to be the most active of the European markets
today, and our company is committed to providing the finest
telecommunications services in Germany. Many German subsidiaries of
multinational companies are dispersed throughout the country, rather
than being concentrated in single metropolitan areas, and we need to
meet all of their telecommunications needs. That is why we are
building our national frame relay network. Our objective is to
provide the finest advanced data services throughout
Germany."
WorldCom has extensive experience building frame relay networks
and providing complex data network solutions for customers. The
U.S.-based company was the first to introduce public frame relay to
the telecommunications industry in March 1991. By 1994, the company
began to build a worldwide frame relay network installing its first
international switches in key financial centers of Frankfurt, London,
Tokyo, Toronto and Paris. The international network has grown to more
than 25 owned and operated switches outside the United States with
frame relay connectivity worldwide.
"With this experience, we can provide our customers cost
efficient and reliable data communications services which span the
world. Our data networks support the mission-critical data
application needs of multinational customers," Hischer
explained. "Our national frame relay network will be built for
future frame relay growth and to accommodate many value added options
like ISDN access. To maintain our leadership position, we will
continue our efforts to offer all data products customers are
seeking."
Local sales and operations personnel of WorldCom's German
subsidiary, WorldCom GmbH, will be responsible for building the frame
relay network, maintaining the data switches and offering the frame
relay services. WorldCom GmbH has offices in Frankfurt, Stuttgart,
Munich, Berlin, Hannover, Dusseldorf and Hamburg. The company already
offers voice services over its own network in these cities, as well
as, Internet products through WorldCom subsidiary UUNET Technologies,
