WorldCom Unveils Industry-Leading Global IP Network Services Suite

ASHBURN, Va. - At its 2001 Executive Forum, WorldCom today unveiled a suite of comprehensive global IP networking services --WorldCom IP VPN and WorldCom Private IP -- which provide the data infrastructure essential for both traditional and digital companies to operate as global e-businesses.

"WorldCom has integrated its IP networking capabilities into a single unified global product line that is unmatched in the industry," said Brian Brewer, senior vice president of Business Marketing. "Our global facilities-based network footprint sets us apart from new and established competitors by delivering a complete line of integrated public and private IP network solutions with an advanced feature set backed by industry-leading service level guarantees and years of IP expertise."

WorldCom IP VPN, powered by the company's global IP network, delivers industry-leading, secure dial and dedicated Virtual Private Network (VPN) services. WorldCom Private IP unlocks new e-applications for traditional data users through the Company's IP-enabled global networks using MPLS technology.

WorldCom's new unified IP network services suite raises the bar for the entire industry and further solidifies WorldCom's position as a data-driven, high-growth company leading the industry in delivering new digital services, such as VPN, Web hosting and Web Center, crucial for e-business operations. WorldCom's IP networking services comprise a full range of business-class features such as multiple access options including dial, ISDN, DSL and wireless Internet, tailored to customer-specific applications and business locations. In addition, WorldCom's ability to inter-operate its global IP and private data networks provides a significant value proposition by delivering a hybrid IP VPN and Private IP solution for companies looking to extend traditional data networks using the Internet.

Available immediately, WorldCom IP VPN today is offered in 23 countries while WorldCom Private IP is offered in all countries where WorldCom offers frame relay (45 countries) and ATM (22 countries). CIMI Corporation, a leading industry analyst firm, estimates IP services represent 25 percent of all data services revenue today and predicts that by 2010, that percentage will increase to 87 percent. According to The Yankee Group, WorldCom is one of the best positioned companies to lead the global delivery of IP VPN services in a market valued to exceed $7 billion by 2005.

"WorldCom is in a position to capture a significant portion of IP service market share," said Todd Miller, industry analyst, The Yankee Group. "WorldCom's ability to leverage its assets to bridge the gap between traditional and IP networks will determine its market share as companies increasingly use IP services to do business."

As e-business becomes "business as usual," and a company's communications infrastructure becomes synonymous with its e-business infrastructure, WorldCom customers such as Bechtel Corporation and The LTC Group, a Veritas Corporation, rely on WorldCom IP networking services for their "business-as-usual" operations. Both Bechtel and The LTC Group use WorldCom's IP VPN services to conduct business among remote offices and remote workers as well as with trading partners in the United States and throughout Europe.

According to Derek Park, director of Technical Marketing of The LTC Group, "WorldCom's solutions have enabled us to take our business to new heights. We are now able to generate and transmit digital images to all of our offices instantly and simultaneously in an effort to enhance collaboration and increase the value of our end-product."

Customers are implementing WorldCom Private IP to extend the life, features and functionality of their existing frame relay or ATM network infrastructure. With a single connection to the WorldCom Private IP network, all of a company's private network sites can cost-effectively and simply talk to each other in an "any-to-many" connected network environment. Throughout 2001, WorldCom plans to further enhance and extend its IP networking offerings. Recent enhancements to the WorldCom IP VPN product line include expansion into Latin America, availability of expanded bandwidth and redundancy options and inter-operability between legacy data connections and IP VPN solutions. All WorldCom IP solutions are easily integrated with other WorldCom e-business-enabling solutions including Web hosting, advanced security solutions and other value-added services. In addition, WorldCom's IP service suite delivers a platform for a variety of multimedia desktop applications including voice over IP.
