Verizon named top 5 military spouse friendly employer.

May 10 is Military Spouse Appreciation Day, a day when we show our appreciation for the sacrifices made by spouses for members of the military.

“Military spouses are the silent heroes who are essential to the strength of our nation, and they serve our country just like their loved ones,” as stated by the Museum of the American G.I.

Verizon understands and appreciates these sacrifices, and as an employer takes steps to support and value the contributions of military spouses, which is why we’ve been named a top 5 Military Spouse Friendly employer. V Teamer Judith Tushim tells us why, sharing her personal experiences as a military spouse, and how Verizon has been there for her and her growing family.

Peace of mind.

Judith, a Solutions Specialist in Consumer, spoke to us about the support Verizon has provided over the years. Her husband is in the Army. During his 10 years in the military, he’s been deployed twice to Korea and once to the Middle East. Whenever he went overseas, Verizon was there for Judith and her family, giving them the quality time to prepare for deployment, as well as to settle back in when he returned. Judith shared how important it is to have that time together as a family.

Her husband’s most recent change in duty stationed him in Hawaii. With a 5-year-old daughter and another baby on the way, the family made the decision to relocate. Our Military Recruitment team was there to help Judith find a position in her new location.

“I knew the company already had lots of great benefits for employees but this alone is awesome,” says Judith. “As a mom-to-be, I was nervous transitioning here that I wouldn’t have a job. I can’t thank Tommy Jones and Joe Orecchio enough for helping me locate the position and arranging the details to get me transferred just in time for the new addition!”

Verizon thanks you for your sacrifices Judith, and we congratulate you on the new position as you grow your career, and as you grow your family!

Why hire military spouses.

Military spouses are the type of people Verizon wants to attract to the V Team. As Military Friendly states, “Military spouses have the education, background, and talent to be important contributors to companies that seek diverse job candidates. More and more companies are finding out that this pool of talent is a huge asset to their organizations.”

The criteria to make the list of top military spouse friendly companies includes what employers do to attract, hire, and develop these candidates, as well as the policies and practices they put in place to support them.

Here are some of the benefits we offer that landed us in the top five:

  • During the pre-employment process, candidates can identify themselves as a military spouse.
  • Our Military Spouse Talent Network also helps candidates find good career opportunities.
  • Our Military Recruitment Team helps match skills with job roles during all phases of employment, to support a lifelong career with Verizon no matter where the military may take them.
  • Our careers landing page for the military provides one-stop shopping and resources for service members and spouses.

The list of Military Spouse Friendly employers is part of a series of lists published annually by Military Friendly that identifies employers committed to veterans and military families. Verizon was recently named the #1 Military Friendly company for a second consecutive year for our total commitment to the military community across all aspects of our business.
