Verizon’s Global Learning & Development (L&D) team earned top honors from Training magazine as #1 Outstanding Training Initiative. And as technology continues to evolve, so does Verizon L&D. The team won Gold in the Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards for Best Advance in Emerging Learning Technology.

Outstanding Training Initiative

For most Hall of Famers, being honored usually comes after the career has ended. But in 2023, Verizon’s training initiative, A New Selling Ecosystem, finished first among 14 submissions by Training Hall of Famers.

The upskilling program trained Verizon consumer and business sales employees on methodology, application and coaching. Using a variety of in-person and online tactics, the training efforts yielded a significant increase in sales opportunities and close rates.

As a 10-year member of Training magazine’s Hall of Fame, Verizon annually submits a training initiative to be judged by fellow Hall of Famers. Submissions are scored on level of potential business impact, level of difficulty of challenges faced, project scope, instructional design, innovation and business outcomes achieved/expectations met. Verizon also won in 2023 for Consumer Group Onboarding. Watch for the announcement coming soon on Trainingmag.com.

Best Advance in Emerging Learning Technology

Since 2000, Verizon L&D has received 50 Brandon Hall Group honors. In 2023, the team won gold in Technology Excellence for leveraging an innovative and robust set of platforms and tools to radically reimagine systems training and guided performance support for customer-facing representatives.

Historically, training environments used for learning were largely static and manually managed, relying on stable environments and significant resources. Using a combination of AI, GPS, immersive training, real-world practice and reimagined instructional design, L&D provided a more authentic and streamlined training experience for its customer-facing representatives. The state-of-the-art system seamlessly guides and supports learners through their selling journey – from onboarding to customer-facing interactions. The training initiative generated significant savings and improvements in the customer experience..

Project leaders Christy Bratton-Jones and Karl Sonta of the Verizon Global L&D team will present the award-winning project at the Human Capital Management Excellence Conference in mid-February. The Brandon Hall Group Excellence in Awards™ are given for work in Learning and Development, Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, Sales Enablement, Future of Work, and Education Technology.
