MCI WorldCom Unites Frame Relay And Internet To Deliver Seamless Networking Solutions For The Enterprise

Frame Relay Internet Gateway Leverages Private Network Benefits
and Features To Deliver Secure Inter-Networking Applications

ATLANTA, (Networld + Interop), October 21, 1998 -

MCI WorldCom today unveiled Frame Relay Internet Gateway, the first
security-enhanced, commercial offering for companies to link frame
relay networks with the public Internet to deploy seamless networking
applications, including VPN-based intranets and extranets. Frame
Relay Internet Gateway, available in the U.S., empowers businesses to
increase use of the Internet for critical new applications by
leveraging the benefits of frame relay and capitalizing on existing
legacy data network investments.

With Frame Relay Internet Gateway, MCI WorldCom is furthering its
on-net virtual data strategy of delivering interoperable solutions -
through a single "super port" of entry to the MCI MCI
WorldCom global network -- to meet a wide range of
local-to-global-to-local data networking needs for small to large
businesses.

"We have officially liberated frame relay by introducing
managed security gateways to the Internet" said John
Scarborough, MCI MCI WorldCom director of Virtual Data Services.
"The marriage of frame relay and Internet extends private
networks beyond corporate boundaries to enable inter-enterprise
VPNs."

According to Vertical Systems Group (
www.verticalsystems.com

), 77% of Fortune 1000 companies use Frame Relay Services, and 96%
plan to increase their internet use and/or add Internet applications
during the next year.

How It Works

With Frame Relay Internet Gateway, companies can view and manage
frame relay and Internet applications across one seamless network
facility. MCI WorldCom is able to deliver an integrated platform to
customers by interconnecting MCI WorldCom's frame relay network
to UUNET's award-winning, global IP network.

Using security-enhanced network-to-network interfaces (NNIs),
Frame Relay Internet Gateway connects a customer's frame relay
network to the Internet, creating a truly integrated networking
solution and providing an alternative to additional access facilities
or ports for dedicated Internet connections. With Frame Relay
Internet Gateway, companies can move data securely and efficiently
between frame relay networks and the Internet through permanent
virtual circuits (PVC) directed to geographically dispersed managed
security gateways physically located within the MCI WorldCom
network.

Customer Benefits

Frame Relay Internet Gateway eliminates the need for access loops
associated with large, shared corporate Internet gateways. Since
Frame Relay Internet Gateway is a network based, geographically
dispersed connection to the Internet, customers need only one Frame
Relay Internet Gateway gateway port. Customers save costs associated
with multiple dedicated access links to the Internet otherwise
required for remote corporate locations. In addition, customers
realize greater bandwidth efficiencies by using a single data access
loop for multiple applications and network on-ramps.

MCI WorldCom Frame Relay Internet Gateway customers benefit from
service level guarantees as part of MCI WorldCom's
"Enterprise Assurance" program.

Get On-Net

MCI WorldCom Frame Relay Internet Gateway is part of the complete
suite of On-Net products and services which provide strong incentives

of services and product discounts, all integrated onto a single
