Earlier this month, 50 volunteers from 13 organizations, including Verizon employees and their families, gathered at Verizon’s operations center in Livingston, N.J., for an “Adopt A Unit” pack-up, where volunteers collected and packed items for “Comforts of Home” holiday packages destined for troops deployed overseas.
Volunteers collected and packed donated items, including toiletries and snacks, and children wrote notes and drew pictures for the troops to include in the boxes.
In all, the volunteers packed 64 boxes that will be sent to more than 225 New Jersey troops stationed currently in Bahrain and Kuwait.
“A big thank you to everyone who donated and volunteered for this year’s event,” said Paul Sullivan, region operations president for Verizon New Jersey.
“It was a great day and a great way to show our appreciation for our troops serving overseas during the holidays.”
Partners in the event include the American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey Board of Directors; Audio Visual Associates; Cub Scout Pack #168, Rutherford; CWA District 1; IBEW Local 827; Inserra Shop Rite and Shop Rite Family; New Jersey Carpenter’s Union; Prominent Properties – Sotheby’s International Realty; PSE&G; Realogy; United Water; and Wilken & Guttenplan, LLC.
