Build Competitive Edge With These ‘Big 5’ Technologies

This is a guest post from Aura Delgado who is part of the workforce administration team at Verizon.

Verizon is a company that is committed to recruiting, hiring and retaining the best possible employees to achieve outstanding customer service. As a part of Verizon’s desire to meet its employees’ constant evolving needs, our company has established an educational assistance program -- the Verizon Tuition Assistance Program, or VZTAP.

I began my career at Verizon on Dec. 13, 1999, in the Corporate Service Department when I was 19 years old. The department consisted of approximately 12 employees, all of whom had 25 or more years of service. While working in this department with such a great group of people, I learned about the Tuition Assistance Program as well as other benefits Verizon had to offer.

I began using the Tuition Assistance Program  in 2003, and over the past 11 years I’ve completed four degrees and two certifications:  associate degree in business administration (2005), tax consultant certification - federal and state returns (2006), tax consultant certification - corporation returns (2007), Bachelor of Science in marketing (2007), Master of Business Administration (2010) and a Master of Science in accounting (2014).

Currently, I Aura Delgadoam working in the Workforce Administration group, where I am the subject matter expert for employee time-keeping (vacation, personal days, etc.) in the Bronx area.

I am proud to say that I am an employee who has taken full advantage of the Tuition Assistance Program, and by far this is not the end of my educational experience. The program afforded me the opportunity to pursue my dreams by assisting with my tuition needs and proved that anything is possible if given the right tools to succeed.

I am honored to look back at my educational history, and I am grateful to Verizon for creating the Tuition Assistance Program, which played an important role in my academic success.
