Do you need a tough little phone?

Yes, I'd recommend this product.

If you are like my husband and dont want a smart phone that you have to worry about breaking or no longer working if you drop it, get it wet or dirty, this tough little phone is perfect. This is his third Keyocera Dura phone over the past 10 years. The Dura, is just that, it is a DURABLE phone that can withstand someone that works outdoors. His phones have taken a few swims in ditches filled with water, been rained on and stuffed in pockets that may be full of dirt, but it keeps working! The battery IS replaceable, which is not the norm with most phones now. The only problem he has ever had with this little phone is the charging pin, and its the reason we are replacing the phone now. It would no longer charge. But his was over three years old and had lived a hard life. As long as Keyocera keeps making this phone, we will keep buying it.

Yes, I'd recommend this product.

I got to a point where I was clocking 7-9 hours of screen time a day...the majority of which was pointless scrolling. I hated it. Smartphone addiction is 100% a real thing, and after multiple "subtle" attempts at reducing my smartphone dependence failed, I decided something more aggressive was necessary. This device keeps me in touch with EXCELLENT battery life, EXCELLENT signal strength and call quality, and EXCELLENT durability. My only gripe - The predictive text option could be better, and takes some getting used to. Many time "normal" words are not in the list of options, while VERY abnormal words are. There are several other oddities that don't seem to have a rhyme or reason to them. Other than the not so friendly predictive text feature, this phone is a 10/10.

Newer Version BUT Not As Friendly To Use...

Nice durable phone, BUT the "updated" version got rid of T9Word typing, which I liked, and replaced with "Prediction" typing, which does not predict well. I can use the old "multi-tap of the keys" and type faster than Prediction. The old version DuraXV was a lot friendlier to use. This model does not give typing options for words like Mr., Mrs, Dr. tho, etc., LOL, and so on. I DO LIKE the "smiley face" emoji option in texting tho.

Hi Bill. We know T9Word was loved by many, but unfortunately, it was not licensable by the developer. Our latest custom Prediction typing software is a significant step forward from its original iteration; however, we are aware that it lacks certain English-language honorifics and abbreviations. I encourage you to add commonly used words to your “My Words” dictionary. This way, typing 6771 will suggest “Mrs.” for example.

1. Open a Message thread or start a new Message
2. Press the left soft key labeled “Prediction” or “Abc”
3. Find and select “0. Text Options”
4. Select “4. My Words”
5. Press Menu, then Add
6. Use “Abc” mode to type “Mrs.”
7. Press “Save”
8. Reply to a Message, or start a new one; then type 6771 for “Mrs.”

Thanks for leaving this 4-star review despite the problem you’re seeing. Let’s troubleshoot and rectify this issue! First, verify your device’s Group Messaging setting:

1. Open the Messaging app
2. Select Options
3. Select Settings
4. Ensure Group Messaging is ON

Second, messaging conflicts can occur after switching devices. Recipients or senders using an OLD conversation thread (created or used with a previous phone) may encounter message failures. Be sure to verify that any important texts/images are saved before proceeding. Then request all members of the messaging group to delete the old thread and create a new conversation to ensure proper text routing.

Yes, I'd recommend this product.

I have had this phone for over 9 years. It is really tough. Yes it has a small screen and yes it is old school texting. It has internet, if your eyes are not so good the fonts can be made bigger.This phone went into the washer I pulled it out dried off the exterior and made a call. No big sreen phone would ever do that. Its small so it will fit in any pocket. I work out in the woods and I have either lost or destoyed three flat sreen phones. This is truily extreme duty phone.

It looks rugged but the keys are small and close together. The screen goes dark to quick. Needs to be charged often, like every 10 hours.

Thank you for your feedback about the ultra-rugged DuraXV Extreme+. We hope you get used to the keys after using them a little. If you want the screen to stay lit for a longer time, you can change the setting at: Settings > Display settings > Display backlight. You can set it to as long as 30 minutes. However, the brighter and the longer the dislay is on, the quicker it will drain the battery, so keep that in mind. There are a number of other factors that impact the battery life. If you are not using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, make sure to turn those off. If you are not using Data for things like email or browsing, then turn off Mobile Data Access. Also, be aware that the strength of the mobile network in your area has a big impact on battery life. If the phone has to continually search for better coverage, it will run down the battery significantly faster. My new Kyocera Dura is definitely an upgrade from my old Alcatel flip phone. It is hefty, solid, and has a better screen. It follows links a little better but it is NOT a smart phone so if you need more than just a good basic phone, this is not for you. I just need my phone to be a phone so this is great for me.

Yes, DuraXV Extreme+ has a flashlight function. One convenient way to use the flashlight is to assign it to a programmable key, like the PTT key. To do this, go to Settings -> Programmable keys. Select PTT key. Scroll down to Flashlight and press the center navigation key to select it. Now you can long-press the PTT key to launch the Flashlight app and turn it on.
