Excellent Phone for the $$$

4 out of 5 rating

Kevin . 16 days ago

Check Mark GraphicYes, I'd recommend this product.
I recently got my hands on the Google Pixel 8a, and I have to say, it's an impressive piece of technology. The Pixel 8a combines some of the best features from Google's flagship lineup, including the powerful Tensor G3 processor, excellent cameras, and a sleek design. However, I must admit, my excitement was initially tempered by a bit of disappointment. When I first went to purchase a new phone, the Pixel 9 was presented as the top choice. With its cutting-edge features and sleek design, it was hard not to be drawn to it. Unfortunately, the Pixel 9 was not available at the time, leaving me feeling like I had to settle for a lesser version. Despite this initial letdown, the Pixel 8a has proven to be anything but a compromise. Its performance is smooth, the camera quality is outstanding, and the battery life is impressive. While I might have had my heart set on the Pixel 9, the Pixel 8a has more than exceeded my expectations and has become a reliable companion in my daily life. If you're looking for a high-quality phone that won't break the bank, the Pixel 8a is definitely worth considering.

Don't Believe The Hype...

One of the worst phone experiences around imo. I've owned at least 30 Android devices ranging from Low to High end in the past 10 years and this ranks among the worst. The phone runs perpetually hot, the battery drains by the minute percentage wise with the screen on at the lowest refresh rate. Processors seem set up to benchmark better than the actual performance will reflect cuz in real usage I had a more consistent performance experience from snapdragon 695 devices that clock much lower than this one. AI features were the draw for me and honestly live up to their hype and inside a better equipped device are worth experiencing. I accept you get what you pay for and this is the budget device but there's at least five devices priced $100 or more cheaper that I would trade this for in a heartbeat. I read so many reviews that I now recognize were written by Google fan boys who likely have an undisclosed interest in seeing Pixel devices succeed(which I'm not mad at). That said the Apple-fication of Google is a real thing and from my experience with this phone it is just another step in that direction. Where Google once led the charge on features and devices that were more practical and built to empower the user They now focus on the spec race and employ half baked improvements where continuing to ignore perpetual device deficiencies. That's my rant buy at your own risk. Or if we cross paths you can have mine if it's not in the trash somewhere.

  1. Compared to Pixel 7a phone.
  2. May not work on all images.
  3. May not work on all image elements.
  4. May not work on all audio elements.
  5. Features may differ depending on subscription and results may vary. Google Workspace extension must be enabled. Availability varies by country. See g.co/gemini/appavailability for details. Check responses for accuracy.
  6. Gemini mobile app available on select devices, languages, and countries. Internet connection required. Check responses for accuracy.
  7. Common Criteria certification for hardware and cryptographic library. See g.co/pixel/certifications for details.
  8. Designed to comply with dust and water protection rating IP67 under IEC standard 60529 when each device leaves the factory but the device is not water or dust proof. The accessories are not water or dust resistant. Water resistance and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and will diminish or be lost over time due to normal wear and tear, device repair, disassembly or damage. Phone is not drop proof and dropping your device may result in loss of water/dust resistance. Liquid damage voids the warranty. See g.co/pixel/water for details.
  9. For "over 24 hours": Estimated battery life based on testing using a median Pixel user battery usage profile across a mix of talk, data, standby, and use of other features. Average battery life during testing was at least 31 hours. For "Up to 72 hours": Estimated battery life based on testing using a median Pixel user battery usage profile across a mix of talk, data, standby, and use of limited other features that are default in Extreme Battery Saver mode (which disables various features including 5G connectivity). For both claims: Battery testing conducted on a major US carrier network in California in late 2023 on pre-production hardware and software using default settings, except that, for the "up to 72 hours" claim only, Extreme Battery Saver mode was enabled. Tests begin with phones fully charged. Battery life depends upon many factors and usage of certain features will decrease battery life. Actual battery life may be lower.
  10. See g.co/pixel/updates for details on when your Pixel is eligible to receive Feature Drops. Availability of some Feature Drops may vary.

The customer service is unpredictable. Fail to put important notes in account notes. But the customer service reps that were good almost made up for the ones that don't know/like their job. The ones that don't care how they or anyone else are making a good company look bad.
