Test Device in Safe Mode - Android™
Safe Mode helps to determine if an app is causing your device to freeze / reset / run slowly.
Safe Mode:
- should always be performed before a hard (factory) reset.
- allows you to troubleshoot third-party apps that may be causing device issues.
- temporarily disables all apps installed from the Google Play™ Store.
- If you don't see 'Safe Mode' displaying on your Home screen, ensure it's enabled by doing the following:If the instructions below don't apply, visit vzw.com and search for "(Device Name) - Safe Mode".
- Press and hold thePower buttonuntil 'Power Off' appears.
- Touch and holdPower offuntil the 'Reboot to safe mode' prompt appears.
- TapOK.
- Once Safe Mode has been enabled, perform the following to test functionality:
- Make and receive calls
- Send and receive text messages
- Browse the internet
- Use available apps
- If the issue persists, restart the device to exit Safe Mode, skip the steps below then proceed with further device troubleshooting. If Safe Mode does not disable after restart, try the following:
- Remove the case then restart the device again. This is to ensure the case is not holding down any buttons.
- Check the device for physical damage to ensure none of the buttons are stuck, missing, etc.
- If the issue doesn't occur while in Safe Mode, uninstall any recently installed or updated apps one by one.For example, if you're having issues with your camera, start with apps that use the camera (e.g., QR reader, video chat apps, etc.).
- After each removal, restart the device then re-test to see if removing that app resolved the issue.
- Once the problem app has been identified, all other apps may be reinstalled.
