Apple iPhone - Manage Messages

Here's how to ensure MMS messaging for your iPhone is turned on if you're unable to send / receive picture messages.

Apple® iPhone® uses different colored message bubbles to indicate whether a message is sent via iMessage® (blue), standard SMS / MMS (green) or Verizon RCS (green).

With Verizon RCS, users can enjoy high-resolution file sharing, improved group chats, typing indicators, read receipts, emoji reactions, and more - regardless of whether you use Google Messages or Apple Messages. For additional info, refer to Verizon RCS FAQs.

Open the

Settings app

Navigate:

Apps

Messages

Tap from the following Messages settings to turn on or off:

Options presented may vary depending on iPhone model and iOS version.

If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage, restart your iPhone.

Tap the

iMessages switch

to turn on or off.

iMessages can be sent between all Apple devices.

Tap the

Send as Text Message Switch

to turn on or off.

Send as SMS when iMessages is unavailable.

Tap

RCS Messaging

then tap the

RCS Messaging Switch

to turn on or off.

To use Verizon RCS, ensure your iPhone has cellular data or Wi-Fi turned on.

Tap the

MMS Messaging switch

to turn on or off.

Tap the

Filter Unknown Senders

switch to turn on or off.

Advanced troubleshooting and configuration for iMessage should be handled by Apple.
