RESTON, VA -- Bell Atlantic Internet Solutions is now

for its high-speed, dedicated access service that can connect
Baltimore area businesses to the Internet. Also available are a set of
services to help businesses establish a professional presence on the

Bell Atlantic already offers these services in the Washington, D.C.,
area, and they are slated for introduction in Roanoke, Va,
Philadelphia, northern New Jersey, Pittsburgh and Norfolk, Va, between
now and the end of the year.

"We are pleased to offer our Baltimore customers what we believe is an
effective and affordable solution to their Internet concerns," said

line will be backed by state-of-the-art 'help desk' and technical
support, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our goal is to bring the
high customer service standards of the telephone company to our
Internet offering," he added.

The dedicated access service provides businesses with a variety of
options for connecting to the Internet. These include:

  • SMDS -- switched multimegabit data service optimizes the
    of a business' local area network by providing access to the
    Internet at variable access classes: 56 kilobits per second (Kbps)
    and 1.5, 4, 10, 16, 25 and 34 megabits per second (Mbps);
  • Frame relay service -- uses packet switching to provide
    all the benefits of a private line without the high cost, at speeds
    of 56 Kbps and 1.5 Mbps;
  • Digital private line -- provides point-to-point Internet
    communications for businesses with intensive data needs at rates
    ranging from 56 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps.

    "Prices for these services will be extremely competitive,"
    Beran said.
    "And you can now get Internet services directly through your current
    Bell Atlantic account manager or business office."

    Packages with the dedicated offering are domain name service, domain
    name registration, Class C Internet address, routing service and mail
    relay service. Customers will also have Usenet news group access, news
    feed, electronic mail and browser site licensing.

    Web hosting, custom and template Web site design, security,
    installation, support and training. The shared Web hosting service
    offers a flat monthly rate starting at $50, depending on computer data
    storage needs, free technical support, domain name registration and
