Bell Atlantic Plan Gives Families Unlimited Regional Calls Home for Just $3.25 a Month

PORTLAND, Maine - Busy families on the move can now call home for one low monthly price.
For only $3.25 a month, Bell Atlantic customers in Maine can make unlimited calls home and talk as long as they want when they make local or regional toll calls from any Bell Atlantic-branded payphone or the phone of a Bell Atlantic customer.
The company is marketing the promotional offering, called the Unlimited Phone Home Plan, in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Jersey.
"Family members can check in without worrying about running up charges," said Claudia Eaton, product manager for Verizon Communications. Verizon Communications is the national telecommunications company formed by the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE. "We believe this plan is the first of its kind," said Eaton.
"Summer is a time when so many people can use this plan because there's so much activity going on away from home. And it will be a great service come fall for students going to college near home or other busy people on the move," she said.
To use the new service, customers dial 1-800-255-CALL and follow the voice prompts to place a calling-card call back to the number on their card. There is no limit to the number of calls or length of the calls. Calls made from phones served by other companies are not included in the plan. Long distance calls are not included in the plan.
The service is available in Maine only to customers who use Bell Atlantic as their regional toll service provider. In Maine, home-bound calls can be placed from any Bell Atlantic line in the state because there is only one regional calling area.
Customers who enroll in the Unlimited Phone Home Plan will receive a Bell Atlantic Calling Card to make using the service easier. Customers also can ask for a Phone-In Card, which limits Calling Card calls to their home number.
The promotional offer is only available through Dec. 31 and must be ordered by Sept. 30. Maine customers can order the service by calling 1-800-585-4466.
