ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Anne Arundel Medical Center
(AAMC) Foundation is getting a booster shot from the Bell Atlantic
Foundation for an innovative project to create a health information
network for the new AAMC, currently under construction.

In a ceremony today at the Westfield Shoppingtown -- Annapolis Mall,
Bell Atlantic - Maryland President & CEO Sherry F. Bellamy presented a
$120,000 grant to AAMC to install a series of interactive kiosks that will
provide patients, staff and visitors with immediate access to current health
and medical information.

"We are pleased to partner with Bell Atlantic on a project that
utilizes state-of-the-art technology as the medium for important health
messages," said AAMC President Martin L. Doordan.
"People of all ages can benefit from this innovative service."

The kiosks will incorporate the latest communications technology,
including links to the World Wide Web. They will have comfortable
seating and access to a secured computer, with user-friendly software and
high-speed Internet access. The kiosks will be located in the waiting areas
of the new hospital at the Medical Park outside Annapolis, as well as in
the lobby of the Clatanoff Pavilion and the Medical Staff Library.

"Delivering low-cost, high-quality health care is one of the greatest
challenges facing our nation and our state," Bellamy said.
"AAMC's mission is to create an integrated health-care delivery
network that provides a full array of services for the community. Bell
Atlantic's support will go a long way toward implementation of this
creative, much-needed project in Anne Arundel County."

As part of its "A New Century of Caring" capital campaign,
the AAMC Foundation has installed an informational kiosk in the
Nordstrom wing of the Annapolis Mall. The interactive touch-screen
program, called "Health Care Built Around You," features
visuals and descriptions of the health system's services and the $65 million
building project at AAMC's Medical Park campus.
