PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Five people are soon going to be famous in Rhode Island.

They may be discovered July 5, when Verizon conducts its next "Be Famous With Verizon FiOS" celebrity search campaign from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Arcade in Providence or at any number of exciting casting calls taking place throughout the state this summer.

Verizon, which recently launched its revolutionary new FiOS TV service in Rhode Island, has begun a unique marketing campaign in search of five people who will be featured in an upcoming FiOS advertising campaign.

At various events throughout Rhode Island this summer, Verizon officials will be videotaping people who want to "Be Famous With Verizon FiOS." Contestants will be videotaped for 15-second spots, which will be posted on a Web site [www.befamouswithfios.com]. Visitors to the site will be able to view the spots, vote for their favorites, and discover the locations of future casting-call events.

In August, Verizon will announce the top 20 contestants, based on ratings by Web site visitors, and the final five will be revealed at a ceremony at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Providence. The five winners will be chosen by a panel of celebrity judges that includes singer Ayla Brown, an American Idol finalist.

"This is one of the most unusual marketing campaigns we've undertaken," said Bob Driscoll, vice president of sales and marketing for Verizon in New England. "We are going to have a lot of fun with this and at the same time it will demonstrate the unique qualities of FiOS TV."

FiOS TV is Verizon's revolutionary new service which delivers outstanding picture quality and reliability over the company's 100 percent all digital fiber-to-the-home network. FiOS TV offers more than 300 channels, including 27 high definition channels, and access to a library of more than 8,600 on-demand titles.

On June 18, Verizon launched FiOS TV in seven communities in Rhode Island: Coventry, East Greenwich, Exeter, North Kingstown, Warwick, West Greenwich and West Warwick. The company plans to offer the service in 12 more communities later this year: Charlestown, Cranston, Foster, Hopkinton, Johnston, Narragansett, North Providence, Providence, Richmond, Scituate, South Kingstown and Westerly.

The "Be Famous With Verizon FiOS" celebrity search campaign will continue throughout the summer. July taping sessions will be held throughout the state including these locations:
