Special program offers calling services for 99 cents

GTE offers a range of calling services for 99 cents each for the first month of service during its "Look to GTE Now" program.

IRVING, Texas - For less than $1, GTE customers nationwide can test drive a range of advanced calling services. The multi-million dollar "Look to GTE Now" marketing campaign includes a such calling services as call waiting, caller ID and voice mail for 99 cents each for the first month.

The campaign's offer will be available to all GTE customers through the end of October. Irving-based Temerlin McClain produced the campaign.

"This is an easy way for our customers to experience first-hand the ease and convenience of these services, whether they're used for work or play," said Rick Crain, vice president-marketing programs for GTE. "We're putting the power of advanced telecommunications into the hands of our customers so that they can get more from their phone."

GTE customers may subscribe to one or more of the calling services featured for 99 cents each for the first month of service, without an activation fee. After the first month, the regular price goes into effect. The offer is good for new residential subscriptions, and customers can order different services throughout the promotion.

Calling services give more control over the phone

    The calling services included are:

  • Caller ID - lets you know who's calling so you can decide whether or not to answer the phone (additional equipment required)
  • Call waiting - alerts you to a second incoming call while you're talking on the phone, so the caller doesn't hear a busy signal
  • Voice mail - great alternative to an answering machine, enabling you to get messages while on the Internet and access messages remotely
  • Call forwarding - send your incoming calls to another phone number so you don't miss an important call
  • Call block - keeps unwanted calls from getting through so you're not disturbed
  • Distinctive ring - provides two phone numbers and two distinct rings on one phone line
  • Special call acceptance - allows only calls from your pre-selected list of numbers (up to 12 phone numbers) so only the calls you select go through
  • *69 auto call return - automatically stores and allows a return call to the last person to call locally, so you can easily return a missed call
  • *66 auto busy redial - the phone rings with a distinctive ring alerting you when the number called is no longer busy, saving the frustration of frequent calls to a busy number
  • 3-way calling - allows three people at three different phone numbers to talk together
  • VIP alert - a special ring alerts you that one of the people you've designated on your VIP screening list (up to 12 phone numbers) is calling so you won't miss important calls
  • Cancel call waiting - allows you to turn off the call waiting feature for individual phone calls so your call won't be disturbed by an incoming call
  • Speed call 8 or 30 - allows speed dialing for 8 or 30 selected numbers so you can dial frequently called numbers with the touch of one or two buttons
  • Anonymous call block - allows you to block calls from anyone who uses complete blocking per line or selective blocking per call; the blocked calls are routed to a message instructing the caller to remove the blocking and call again
