NEW YORK - New Yorkers can now pay the phone bills for family members and friends who are Verizon Dominicana customers - without boarding a plane to the Dominican Republic. This new service, available at BHD Worldwide offices in New York, is also offered at BHD locations in New Jersey, Boston, Rhode Island and Puerto Rico.

The service, called "Paga tu factura desde el exterior" (Pay your bill from abroad), also allows those visiting the BHD offices to purchase minutes for Verizon Dominicana customers' prepaid wireless service.

Verizon Communications owns 100 percent of Verizon Dominicana, which is the leading local, long-distance and wireless telephone service provider in the Dominican Republic.

"This service provides an attractive alternative for Verizon Dominicana customers who have relatives or friends in the U.S. who want to help them pay their bills and buy minutes for their wireless service," said Benigno Gonzalez, vice president of marketing for Verizon Dominicana. "The members of the Dominican community in the U.S. have strong ties to their families and friends hundreds of miles away in the Dominican Republic, and this bill payment option helps to ensure that the communication channels remain open."

The service, which is free of charge, is easy to use: The friend or relative goes to a BHD office and provides the phone number of the Verizon Dominicana customer. The entire or partial balance can be paid, and minutes can be bought for the wireless account.

Verizon Dominicana customers who are traveling in the U.S. and want to pay their bills can take advantage of this service.

There are 11 BHD offices in New York, nine in Puerto Rico, and one each in Union City, N. J.; Boston, Mass.; and Providence, R.I.
