NEW YORK CITY -- NYNEX, in association with The New York Times, today announced a new site for customers of America Online who want an enjoyable way to learn more about telecommunications and technology issues.

The new area, called the NYNEX Technotorium, is available through The New York Times' @times service, a popular America Online service that provides news and information to more than 1 million online visitors a month.

Today NYNEX announced the grand opening of the NYNEX Technotorium, which contains a wide variety of information about NYNEX and the telecommunications industry. Icons to enter the Technotorium can be found on the @times main screen and the Computer & Technology news screen.

"The Technotorium is a next step in developing the potential of the online medium," said Janet Keeler, managing director of marketing communications at NYNEX. "This project brings together a high-tech company, a high-technology medium all wrapped up in a fun and user-friendly package. We believe our association with The New York Times brings to NYNEX a ready-made audience of NYNEX customers and and people who are interested in our company and its products."

Howard Stringer Is First Speaker

The NYNEX Technotorium concept and artwork were developed in conjunction with the advertising agency Chiat/Day. The site is divided into seven sections:

-- Auditorium - Prominent speakers field technology questions in real time from America Online members. The first event is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Sept. 21 with Howard Stringer, chairman of TELE-TV, the new media and technology company formed by NYNEX, Bell Atlantic and Pacific Telesis.

-- The Lab - News from NYNEX Science & Technology, the company's research and development laboratories.

-- The Cork Board - Topical message boards for discussion of technology issues.

-- MarketSpace - Products and services available from NYNEX for the home and office.

-- Hall of Fame - Brief biographies on some of the world's greatest geeks, past and present.

-- Just 4 Kids - Technology information and stories for children.

-- CyberFairs - Information about technology-related conferences and expositions.
