BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Verizon Business, a premier provider of advanced global communications and information technology (IT) solutions, announced today it is launching a new service option under which it will manage the server operating systems of business customers, helping them control their costs and increase their systems' performance and reliability.

The new option, Remote Internet Protocol (IP) Application Management Service Basic, allows U.S. business and government customers to rely on Verizon Business to remotely monitor and manage basic IT infrastructure and operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows® or Sun Solaris. By taking advantage of Verizon Business' management environment and expertise, companies can reduce the complexity of managing their IT environments.

Verizon Business' new management option is highly flexible and is available to customers who house their business-critical servers in a variety of settings -- including at their own location, a third-party data center or in one of Verizon's more than 100 U.S. data centers. Customers can choose the technology and location that's right for them, while maintaining their investment in existing infrastructure. Additionally, businesses can better focus on their core strengths so they can quickly adapt and respond to changing business conditions.

"As more companies transition to IP, they are looking for higher-value services that help them better manage their IP infrastructure," said Ed McGuinness, chief marketing officer and senior vice president for Verizon Business. "With our Remote IP Application Management Service Basic option, we continue to help companies overcome the challenges associated with managing IP-based IT systems with a broad continuum of service options."

This service provides customers with Verizon Business' Remote IP Application Management Portal, named Total View, which enables companies to manage, measure, plan and troubleshoot critical server processes in real-time. Integrating a comprehensive set of performance variables, the Total View portal provides access to a wealth of analytical data. As a result, businesses can easily identify and remedy performance problems, helping to avoid expensive productivity and customer losses.

Remote IP Application Management Service Basic

With Remote IP Application Management Service Basic, businesses can outsource the management of their essential operating systems using a comprehensive system of checks to ensure the early detection of problems and critical conditions that may affect system availability. From process monitoring to file system space-management, Verizon Business tracks issues that may hamper the performance of the customer's critical IT infrastructure at the operating system level. When a problem is detected - day or night - Verizon Business works closely with customers to manage hardware and operation system issues, including identification, verification, diagnosis, resolution, tracking, escalation and documenting problems with the customer's system.

The service also performs a number of functions aimed at standardizing the management of a customer's operating systems, including service management, change management, asset management, patch management and configuration management. Using an advanced set of Web-based tools, customers can perform time-saving, performance-enhancing functions such as tracking service tickets and managing modifications to their infrastructure.

Of key importance to IT managers is the ability to patch servers systematically, traditionally a tedious and often time-consuming process. The Verizon Business solution centralizes, standardizes and automates patch management by proactively analyzing customer systems. As a result, a company's servers are updated with the latest software fixes necessary to keep up with the ever-changing security landscape -- an area where rapid deployment of software patches is crucial to protecting critical company systems.

Customers also can supplement this option with add-on services, including backup/recovery management, where Verizon Business performs weekly full and daily incremental backups of data; security management, where Verizon Business performs monthly scans to discover known vulnerabilities of network devices; and network management aimed at monitoring, maintaining and managing additional network devices.
