BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Multinational corporations can arm themselves against Internet attacks in major regions of the world -- the United States, Europe and now Asia.  Verizon Business is extending its Denial of Service (DoS) Defense Mitigation offering and making it available immediately to eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as three additional European countries.

Verizon Business is the first major global communications provider to offer these network-based security capabilities to multinational companies around the world.

DoS Defense Mitigation services have previously been available in the United States and 11 European countries.  The services are now available to eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region (Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, India, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan), and three additional countries in Europe (Austria, Italy and Ireland).  Businesses in these countries can now benefit from the enhanced protection that Verizon Business offers against DoS attacks.

Distributed DoS attacks aim to make corporate networks and other resources unavailable to corporate users by flooding networks and disrupting the flow of legitimate network traffic.  DoS attacks have the potential to severely disrupt or halt business operations and can pose a major challenge for businesses. Such attacks can be difficult to prevent and are best stopped at the network level.  In 2006, approximately 25 percent of Internet attacks were DoS attacks, according to the 2006 CSI FBI Computer Crime and Security Survey.

"With more organizations embracing IP, the need for enhancing security at this level becomes critical," said Kerry Bailey, vice president of Verizon Business security solutions.  "This business transformation to IP brings significant benefits, but also increased risk.  With the combination of Verizon's expansive global IP network and unsurpassed security expertise, Verizon DoS Defense Mitigation will help customers improve business continuity and defend against damaging DoS attacks at the network level."

Verizon DoS Defense Mitigation Services are ideal for medium to large enterprises and government agencies, which must remain on continuous guard from cyber attacks.  Powered by Verizon's global IP network, DoS Mitigation services intercept and redirect malicious traffic to mitigation centers housed within Verizon's IP backbone.  Traffic is quickly rerouted before it can compromise a customer's network.

The Verizon Business customer care portal empowers customers to review and analyze statistics and metrics related to a mitigated attack.  (Verizon Business today also announced the extension of its online portal to the Asia-Pacific region.  Please see separate release.)  The portal enables customers to more easily differentiate between legitimate and illegitimate traffic to help them maintain business continuity.

"The entire world is interconnected, and nowhere is this more evident than in today's global business economy," added Bailey.  "At Verizon Business, we continue to arm our customers with tools to defend against security risks as we deepen and strengthen our security solutions portfolio in Asia Pac and around the globe, leveraging our combined capabilities as a result of the Cybertrust merger."

Enterprises and government agencies rely on Verizon Business to help them manage security risk and protect critical company assets.  Verizon Business security solutions offer a comprehensive portfolio of security services that include threat and vulnerability management; identity management; security and compliance programs; and security strategy and consultation.  More than 1,100 security professionals around the globe deliver these offerings through a range of managed services, professional services and products.  More information is available by visiting http://www.verizonbusiness.com/us/security.
