WASHINGTON, D.C. - A broad array of Spanish-language television programs are now available to customers in the Washington, D.C. area who subscribe to several new programming packages offered by Verizon Entertainment.

DIRECTV PARA TODOS* programming offers more than 40 Spanish-language national and international channels including sports, news, religion education and children's programming, as well as specially selected English-language channels - all with digital-quality picture and sound.

In 1990, The U.S. Census Bureau found that there were over 200,000 Hispanics in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. By 1998, the Census Bureau estimated the national Hispanic population had increased by 35.2 percent.

"This is the first time Verizon Entertainment is offering Hispanic residents in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area access to extensive bilingual programming and a one-stop shopping package for satellite television services," said Dick Beville, president of Verizon Entertainment. "Verizon Entertainment's new Spanish-language packages offer programming for every generation with great programming choices and competitive pricing. We're offering an easy route to robust home entertainment that the whole family can enjoy."

Two unique DIRECTV PARA TODOS programming packages are available from Verizon Entertainment: The OPCIÓN ESPECIALTM package provides more than 18 Spanish-language and more than 32 English-language channels for $19.99 a month. The OPCIÓN EXTRA ESPECIAL™ package offers more than 27 Spanish-language and more than 82 English channels for $31.99 a month. Both packages include up to seven channels of commercial-free Spanish-language music, access to pay per view selections, and sports subscriptions.

Verizon Entertainment is now offering this service in the Washington, D.C. area with a $99 installation offer to customers who order a DIRECTV PARA TODOS system and subscribe to DIRECTV PARA TODOS programming by October 15, 2000. The special offer includes:

  • Professional installation of the DIRECTV PARA TODOS System - which includes an 18-by-24-inch oval satellite dish, one receiver and remote control.

  • A rental option for the DIRECTV PARA TODOS System - eliminating up-front equipment costs. The DIRECTV PARA TODOS System is $6.99 a month for the first television set and additional receivers are $5.99 per month, allowing Washington, D.C. area customers technological advantages of a high-end, digital set-top box and remote control without any need to buy them.
