SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Today, Verizon Information Services-Puerto Rico (VIS-Puerto Rico) and local printer Ramallo Bros. Printing Inc. signed a 10-year agreement in which Ramallo Bros. will print all of VIS-Puerto Rico's telephone directories. This will mark the first time VIS-Puerto Rico has printed its directories on the Island. As a result of the contract, Ramallo Bros. has committed to investing an additional $4.5 million in printing equipment and, together with VIS-Puerto Rico, to creating 50 new local jobs.

"This agreement allows VIS-Puerto Rico to produce high-quality,100 percent Puerto Rican directories in a shorter span of time," said Dallas-based Verizon Information Services President Katherine Harless. "And, it reiterates VIS' commitment to Puerto Rico and our faith in the professionalism and high standard of the local work force." Harless visited the Island to announce and celebrate the signing of the agreement with Angel Ramallo, president of the Ramallo Group.

According to the agreement, Ramallo Bros. will produce an estimated two million directories a year. This includes Verizon's nine island-wide telephone directories, the Business Register publication, the Tourist Quick Guide and an Export & Import Guide, among others. Previously these directories were printed in the United States.

According to Edward Díaz, managing director of VIS-Puerto Rico, the decision to print the directories locally has both business and logistical advantages. "By printing our directories in Puerto Rico, we have more time to manufacture a high-quality product, and meet all of our sales and distribution goals more comfortably," said Díaz. "In addition, the directories will be packed using a new shrink-pack system that allows better packaging and storage of the directories for transportation."

The first yellow pages directories Ramallo Bros. is printing are VIS-PR's seven Isla directories that are distributed in November.

"Ramallo was chosen because of their ability to offer the best in terms of quality, cost effectiveness and fast production. The company is truly a world-class operation with advanced technology, work capacity and equipment," said Díaz.
