Verizon's commitment to employing active and retired members of the U.S. military has been recognized by CivilianJobs.com, an online organization that helps companies recruit employees who have military experience. CivilianJobs.com recently named Verizon to the organization's annual list of Most Valuable Employers (MVE) for Military.

"Military and veteran employees have proven to be extremely focused, quick learning and adaptive leaders in our organization," said Magda Yrizarry, vice president - talent management and diversity for Verizon. "They have unique backgrounds and training.  Some also have hard-to-get security clearances that help Verizon better serve its large-enterprise and government customers."

Verizon actively recruits men and women with military experience and leadership skills to join the company in every capacity. The company offers military personnel a variety of benefits, including some of the best corporate leave policies in the country, which allow employees to continue serving their country while working at Verizon.

For example, when an employee who is in the reserves or National Guard is activated in support of international anti-terrorism and peace-keeping operations, Verizon pays, for up to 36 months, the difference  between the employee's Verizon base pay and military base pay, and continues the employee's health care and other benefits for the same period.

The company also provides a number of training and retention initiatives such as the Verizon Veterans Advisory Board, which provides recognition, support, mentoring and networking for military and veteran employees.

"I would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to the 2011 Most Valuable Employers for Military winners," said Sandra Morris, CEO of Bradley-Morris Inc., parent company of CivilianJobs.com. "Verizon's consistent and detailed approach to veteran recruiting, in addition to training and retention efforts such as their Veterans Advisory Board, made them a compelling selection."

The 2011 Most Valuable Employers (MVE) for Military recognition was open to all U.S.-based companies. The winners were selected based on surveys in which employers outlined their 2011 recruiting, training and retention plans that best serve military service members and veterans.

Award recipients are being recognized on the CivilianJobs.com website as well as in the May issue of Civilian Job News, CivilianJobs.com's worldwide military-base newspaper.
