WASHINGTON - Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Olympia Snowe introduced legislation on national cybersecurity late Wednesday (April 1) that addresses many of the concerns raised by various public and private groups over the past several years.  The following is a statement by Peter Davidson, Verizon senior vice president of federal government relations:

"The Senate bill raises the profile of cybersecurity within the federal government and streamlines many of the cyber-related government functions and authorities.  In addition to the proposed internal government changes, the bill aims to foster innovation and creativity to develop cyber networks that are both user-friendly and engineered to protect individual rights and freedoms in cyberspace.  We commend Senators Rockefeller and Snowe for addressing this issue and look forward to working with them to further improve this important legislation as it moves forward in the Senate."
