Verizon Wireless Extends Domestic Violence Prevention Support Through Packers' Playoff Run

January 10, 2002

MILWAUKEE, WI

The Green Bay Packers National Football League (NFL) playoff participation will pay additional dividends in the fight to prevent domestic violence, courtesy of an extended promotion conducted by Verizon Wireless.

Throughout the playoffs, Verizon Wireless will continue to donate $25 to domestic violence programs in Wisconsin for each point scored by the Packers. The promotion, initially held throughout the course of the regular season, has already netted $9,750 for agencies throughout the state.

The average Packer payday throughout the season exceeded $600, ranging from a high of $925 following the Packers' 37-0 rout of the Washington Redskins on Sept. 24 to a low of $325 following the Packers' Oct. 21 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

"We hope to exceed the previous highs and to extend the program all the way through the Super Bowl," said Tracy Nolan, regional president for Verizon Wireless.

Nolan added that more than a dozen domestic violence shelters and prevention organizations in Green Bay, Madison and Milwaukee benefited from the program, called "Protection Is the Name of the Game." The overall program stems from Verizon Wireless' ongoing commitment to support domestic violence prevention initiatives on a regional and national basis, as well as the company's position as the official wireless provider of the Green Bay Packers.
