Starting today, victims of domestic violence will have a new resource from Verizon Wireless that will help them get the professional support they need quickly and confidentially. By dialing #HOPE from a Verizon Wireless phone on the carrier's nationwide network, the victim will get an immediate connection to the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE) and a step towards safety and independence. The call is toll and airtime free.

The nationwide availability of #HOPE is the newest initiative in Verizon Wireless' long-standing commitment to domestic violence prevention through HopeLineSM. This multi-faceted program involves raising awareness and aiding in the prevention of domestic violence through monetary and product and service donations, education, events and partnerships with non-profit organizations.

"For many women in need, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is the first place they call to find help," said Sheryl Cates, executive director for The National Domestic Violence Hotline. "This service offered by Verizon Wireless increases the accessibility of this vital link to safety and options.

The mobility of the wireless phone - coupled with the easy-to-remember #HOPE number - adds up to helping victims and saving lives."

#HOPE is a service available across Verizon Wireless' extensive, nationwide wireless network. Customers simply dial those keys plus the send key and are directly connected to the National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH) where they can receive help. The Hotline was established in February of 1996 to help end violence against women through crisis intervention and referrals to more than 4,500 family violence service providers nationwide. NDVH operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can provide assistance to callers in both English and Spanish with access to translation in 139 languages.

"The impact of domestic violence on our communities has long been a focus for us at Verizon Wireless, and we have consistently put the support of our people and resources to work to help victims in need," said Denny Strigl, president and CEO for Verizon Wireless. "This national launch is yet another way we offer aid to victims with wireless technology through our HopeLine program."

"Verizon Wireless' commitment to ending domestic violence serves as an example that we encourage all corporations today to follow," said Esta Soler, president of the Family Violence Prevention Fund. "If we are going to collectively work toward preventing the tragedies associated with domestic violence, we need corporations willing to be involved on all levels with innovative services and support. Verizon Wireless continues to offer support to domestic violence victims and provides organizations across the country with much needed assistance."
