PORTLAND, OR — This year’s Annual Portland Arts Festival is presented by Verizon Wireless and kicks off June 13-15, 2003 from 12 – 5 p.m. at the South Park Blocks at Portland State University. The open-air celebration of the arts is part of the Portland Rose Festival, Oregon’s premier civic event and a Northwest tradition for 96 years. In it’s sixth year, the Portland Arts Festival is ranked one of the top juried fine arts and crafts festivals in the nation.
Verizon Wireless has created an Art Bar for the event; enabling aspiring artists to use everything from feathers to glitter to turn mock cell phones into art at the company’s sales booth. A fun activity for families, the Art Bar creates a unique opportunity to get creative, think about the value of recycling, learn about Verizon Wireless’ products and network, and participate in the company’s HopeLineSM program. Participants are asked to turn in their old cell phones at the sales booth or any Verizon Wireless store. Through the HopeLine program, Verizon Wireless collects previously owned wireless handsets to be refurbished, recycled and/or sold to benefit victims of domestic violence and agencies involved in domestic violence prevention.
“As the official wireless sponsor we are excited to be able to share in the tradition of the Portland Rose Festival. We are especially happy to offer a creative activity that is both fun and meaningful since it is linked to our long-standing commitment to domestic violence prevention,” said Kelley Kurtzman Northwest regional president, Verizon Wireless.
The Portland Arts Festival is expected to draw 150 local and national artists and will host more than 15,000 people each day.
