MILWAUKEE, WI — To stay ahead of its growing customer base and demand for its voice and data services, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site in Mequon, Wis., to improve the company's digital network coverage and capacity.

The new cell site increases the strength of the Verizon Wireless network signal, improves signal penetration into buildings and enables more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently. As a result, Verizon Wireless customers will experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ringtones with the company's Get It Now® services.

Network coverage and capacity have been improved along Mequon Road between I-43 and Highway 57 (Green Bay Road). This area serves as a main thoroughfare for Mequon residents as well as for those residing in the community of Thiensville.

"Over the past few years, our customer base in Mequon has grown and the average number of minutes our customers use their wireless phones has increased, resulting in the need for this site," said Tracy Nolan, president—Wisconsin/Illinois Region, Verizon Wireless. "This network enhancement reflects our ongoing commitment to meet the growing needs of our customers and to provide them with the high quality of service they expect from Verizon Wireless."

According to the City of Mequon's Department of Community Development, Mequon has seen a significant increase in population in past years; growing 18 percent during 1990-2003. Geographically, Mequon also is the fourth largest city in the state, measuring 46.88 square miles.

Activation of this new cell site is a part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Wisconsin and across the country. Nationally each year, the company invests about $1 billion every 90 days to improve and expand what is already the most extensive wireless network in the United States. This year, the company already has spent over $35 million in its network in Wisconsin to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services.
