BROCKTON, MA — Verizon Wireless, through its HopeLine® phone recycling program is partnering with the South Shore No Place For Hate Coalition, the White Ribbon Campaign, and the Brockton Rox professional baseball team to strike out hate and violence.

No-longer-used wireless phones, batteries, and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider will be collected on Wednesday, June 27th prior to the Brockton Rox vs. North Shore Spirit game at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton. Phones that can be refurbished are sold; handsets that are recycled are disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. Proceeds from the sale of refurbished phones are used to provide wireless phones, airtime and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness.

Throughout 2006, wireless customers in New England contributed more than 60,000 no-longer-used wireless phones. As a result of the collections, more than $80,000, and 500 wireless phones, with airtime and other features were donated to approximately 50 domestic violence prevention agencies based across New England.

Since its launch nationally in 2001, more than 3.5 million phones have been collected nationwide. The program has disposed of more than 800,000 phones in an environmentally-friendly manner, and refurbished the remaining phones for resale and reuse. Over the past five years, Verizon Wireless has also distributed more than $3.5 million in cash grants and nearly 40,000 phones to domestic violence prevention and awareness programs across the country.

Verizon Wireless is a recognized corporate leader for its commitment to preventing domestic violence and raising awareness of the issue. For more information on Verizon Wireless' HopeLine program and on how to donate a wireless phone, visit www.verizonwireless.com/hopeline.
