WHO
Verizon Wireless today honored Colonel MacArthur Holmes of Savannah with the National HopeLine® Law Enforcement Partnership Award from Verizon Wireless. The Georgia chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) collected over 220 used cell phones for Verizon Wireless’ national HopeLine program.
As a result of the Georgia NOBLE chapter’s efforts, Verizon Wireless also presented $2,500 to SAFE Shelter of Savannah, which provides emergency, temporary shelter and confidential services to victims of domestic violence.

WHAT
The HopeLine Law Enforcement Partnership Award honors the efforts of public safety officials who are committed to reducing domestic violence, providing support to victims, raising awareness of the issue, and educating communities about domestic violence.
HopeLine collects no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any wireless service provider and puts them to work in the community by turning these unused wireless phones into support for victims of domestic violence.

Phones given to HopeLine that can be refurbished are sold for reuse and those without value are disposed of in an environmentally sound way.
