DaimlerChrysler Extends 15-Year Relationship With MCI

MCI's First Managed Services Customer Helps Drive Innovation in Global Communications Networking

ASHBURN, Va., February 4, 2004 - MCI (WCOEQ, MCWEQ) today announced it has extended its 15-year relationship with DaimlerChrysler, entering into two new agreements for advanced global communications services in North America and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) respectively. MCI is a primary communications provider for DaimlerChrysler throughout the world.

"By demanding new solutions to help drive its business, DaimlerChrysler has played a large role in fueling MCI's innovation," said Cindy Andreotti, president of MCI Business Markets. "From initiating our managed services practice in 1989 to accelerating the expansion of our MPLS global footprint this year, MCI continues to expand its capabilities to help ensure our customers' success."

"MCI has consistently kept up with the fast pace and high standards we embrace at DaimlerChrysler and they share our same vision of innovation which helps to contribute to the success of this longstanding relationship," said Vince Morrotti, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, DaimlerChrysler. "MCI continues to deliver cost-effective managed solutions with the reach and quality of service needed to help enhance our business operations around the world."

NAFTA Network

Under terms of the agreement, MCI will continue to manage the assembly networks DaimlerChrysler utilizes to help manufacture the millions of cars, trucks and SUVs produced each year. Using a diverse combination of private lines, frame relay and ATM, DaimlerChrysler's North American production network supports more than 1500 sites including 12 assembly plants. MCI's custom network helps to support DaimlerChrysler's production line, delivering computer generated cues to let employees know specifically which parts to assemble at any given point in the production process.

In addition, MCI helps support DaimlerChrysler's global backbone network, linking internal communications among primary business locations in Stuttgart Germany, Singapore and Detroit, Mich. DaimlerChrysler also uses MCI for advanced voice services such as Enhanced Call Routing (ECR) and Contact Center services which DaimlerChrysler leverages to deliver outstanding customer service to its global dealers.

EMEA Network

Under terms of the agreement in EMEA, MCI will transition DaimlerChrysler's existing private line/frame relay network to an advanced MPLS-based managed IP solution connecting 90 business facilities, including production plants in EMEA. While facilities in Germany will be connected to DaimlerChrysler's global network, MCI is not the primary provider of intra-country communications in Germany under this agreement.

The DaimlerChrysler EMEA network is fully managed out of MCI's world-class network operations center (NOC) in Amsterdam. Since 1998, MCI has designed, built and managed each of DaimlerChrysler's regional networks, integrating them into a seamless, global infrastructure. As a result, DaimlerChrysler achieves maximum network diversity and resiliency, optimum use of and bandwidth and high performance all in a cost-effective advanced network environment.
