The six BEST OF SHOW winners and their innovative products according
to category were:
- Network Server Software: V-One's Smartgate is a security
server that provides authentication and encryption with 56-bit keys
and higher. This product has a unique key recovery system that allows
users to perform key escrow without setting up a costly third-party
key management system. - Intranet Applications: BMC Software's Patrol CGI Server
Suite--Common gateway interface scripting has become one of the most
resource-intensive activities on Web servers. BMC Software has
addressed this real-world problem with its BMC Patrol CGI Server
Suite. By dedicating a separate platform to process scripts,
BMC's Patrol CGI Server Suite aims to speed up Web servers--and
the response time for corporate Web applications. - Network Infrastructure: Extreme Networks' Summit 1 is a
gigabit to gigabit Ethernet switch that has a nonblocking
architecture and routing intelligence. Not only does the switch
offer Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing, but also it offers
prioritization class-of-service capabilities using RSVP, 802.1p,
802.1q and Extreme's own policy-based management software. This
entry also was chosen the Overall "Best of the Best" Award
Winner. - Remote Access: Ramp Networks' WebRamp M3 is an integrated
analog router and Ethernet hub that features bandwidth allocation
capabilities that allows three separate analog connections to be
aggregated for ISDN-like performance. In addition, connections can be
brought up at the net manager's discretion, and a striping
capability allows one user accessing one Web site to use the data
channels of all three modems for faster performance. and Equipment: WorldCom's ATM WEB NMS--WorldCom has taken
web-based monitoring of public services to the next level by
allowing customers to access ATM performance reports from any Web
browser. Data is updated every 15 minutes and is stored for 45
days, making it easy to review historical network performance.
Additionally, reports are available in a range of formats
(graphical, tabular, text) and with a variety of parameters, such
as average utilization and number of cells discarded.- Network Management and Analysis: Netcom Systems' SmartBits
Gigabit Ethernet Test System is the first system capable of measuring
performance, conformance, and device interoperability for gigabit
LANs. It is a high-end, multiport system capable of sending,
receiving, and monitoring packets on multiple connections
simultaneously.
