This week, we announced the first-ever rollout of next-generation 5G wireless residential broadband services. Verizon was the first to deploy 4G LTE, and we are excited to once again be the first to bring consumers a new generation of wireless technology.
Next year, Verizon will roll out 5G technology in three to five U.S. cities, beginning with Sacramento, California. Stay tuned for the announcement of additional markets.
Why is this 5G deployment exciting?
Because it marks the beginning of an unprecedented chapter in wireless connectivity – one that will open the door for countless new and revolutionary applications, and ignite the Internet of Things (IoT) era.
Providing 5G service requires the deployment of new infrastructure like fiber optic cables and small cell antennas. This is why it is so important for local governments, state legislatures, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to move quickly to implement smart policies that remove regulatory barriers that can inhibit new investment and modernize existing rules to accelerate the deployment of this important, next-generation infrastructure.
At Verizon, we don't wait for the future. We build it.
