Global Healthcare Leader Sterigenics Joins Forces With MCI

MCI to Deliver Comprehensive Managed Internet Networking Solution with Multi-Layered Security Defense

ASHBURN, Va., May 24, 2005 - MCI, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced it has entered into a new multi-year agreement with Sterigenics International, Inc., the world's leading supplier of sterilization and ionization services for the healthcare, food safety and advanced applications industries. MCI is providing Sterigenics with a next-generation global communications platform to securely connect its worldwide offices through a broad array of MCI Managed Network and Security Services.

MCI is delivering an integrated IP communications solution comprised of its global IP VPN Dedicated Service, Managed Enterprise Firewall and Managed Email Content services throughout multiple sites in the U.S., Mexico, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. As the only company in its sector to operate globally, Sterigenics required a provider that could build, deploy and manage its international corporate network as well as support its soon-to-be-launched global Enterprise Resource Platform (ERP).

"MCI delivers innovative IP networking solutions to customers like Sterigenics enabling them to tap into the latest technology without the risk associated with building their own networks," said Steve Young, MCI senior vice president of Commercial Markets. "With MCI's Managed Services, Sterigenics is supplementing its knowledge base while leaving the secure networking to us."

Helping to reduce its total cost of ownership by outsourcing its networking to MCI, Sterigenics can take advantage of an end-to-end solution, including network design, deployment, maintenance, and network monitoring around the clock. As a result, Sterigenics' IT staff has been freed up to focus on its core business, while leaving the intricacies of running its network to MCI's global team of more than 5,500 networking and security experts.

"The breadth and depth of MCI's IP communications portfolio has enabled us to connect, secure and support company locations and remote employees around the world as we transition to an IP-based global network," said Michael Smith, vice president of Information Technology, Sterigenics. "With MCI as an extension of our IT team, we are able to take advantage of their resources 24x365 to manage and monitor our global network infrastructure. This allows our internal staff to concentrate on providing applications and services that directly support our business and customers."

Today, MCI manages more than 3,100 customer networks in 149 countries, including overseeing more than 22,000 non-MCI connections from more than 60 network service providers globally.
