Latin American companies purchase earth stations to transmit
voice and data communications
JACKSON, Miss, April 19, 1999 -- IDB Systems, a division of MCI
WorldCom Inc. (NASDAQ: WCOM), recently signed contracts, totaling $4
million, with three Latin American customers.
The three customers - Orbitel S.A. E.S.P. in Colombia, Haitel in
Haiti and Telintar Norte in Argentina - are each purchasing a
16.4-meter Intelsat Standard A earth station. . All three earth
stations will be primarily used to transmit voice and data
communications. The Intelsat Standard A station is the largest of the
Intelsat earth stations. About 54 feet in diameter, these earth
stations typically serve as international gateways, connecting
thousands of high speed data, voice, and video channels Orbitel S.A.
E.S.P, an international carrier in Colombia, is locating its earth
station near Medellin, Colombia. Haitel placing its earth station near
Port au Prince, Haiti. Telintar Norte, the satellite and internatinoal
telecommunications operator affiliate of Telecom Argentina, is
installing its earth station at the Teleport of Bosque Alegre in
Cordoba, Argentina.

IDB Systems is responsible for the engineering and implementation of
each of the Intelsat earth stations. IDB will provide the design,
integration, and installation of the satellite earth stations,
overseeing all aspects of product from initial material procurement
through post-installation which allows the company to maintain the
highest level of quality. IDB also will oversee testing, training and
Intelsat certification of the stations. With offices in Dallas, Denver,
Beijing, London and Bangkok, IDB engineers and technicians have
designed and constructed hundreds of temporary and permanent earth
stations worldwide since the company began in 1984.
