MCI Accelerates Roll-Out Of Wholesale VoIP Product Offering

Carrier IP Termination and SIP Gateway Service Available Today

ASHBURN, Va., August 3, 2005 - MCI, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced the immediate availability of its wholesale Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) product suite. Initially planned for later this year, MCI accelerated its product development to meet the growing demand for VoIP enablement services. The VoIP wholesale services include Carrier IP Termination and SIP Gateway Service.

As the IP marketplace has developed, MCI adapted its approach to TDM functionality. The Carrier IP Termination product is ideal for customers who have already purchased media gateway equipment and desire to obtain the cost advantages of originating IP traffic and terminating that traffic over a fully integrated global network. The Carrier IP Termination service is available throughout the United States, and the SIP Gateway Service is available to more than 54 percent of U.S. business and residential customers.

"MCI customers are demanding VoIP enablement products that not only have the necessary features and functionality but that ride on an integrated global network," said John Krummel, senior vice president of MCI Wholesale Services. "MCI's wholesale VoIP enablement services provide our customers with a carrier of choice that owns and operates an IP-centric network necessary to compete in today's market."

To enhance the purchase process for these products, MCI has designed a program to meet the needs of its extensive customer base. Wholesale customers interested in getting into the VoIP market will now work with a dedicated VoIP sales team that includes senior management, sales professionals, specialized engineering technical consultants, and program implementation personnel. This dedicated team will work in conjunction with MCI's current wholesale sales force.

MCI's VoIP Enablement Services leverage MCI's extensive local network reach and includes local service functionality, such as access to E911, directory listings, and the line identification database. MCI's service also is compliant with current local number portability requirements. To further enhance the availability of its VoIP wholesale offerings, MCI is committed to investing millions of dollars in capital expenditures throughout 2005.
