New Email Security Solution Stops Viruses, Spam and Unwanted Content Before They Reach Business Networks
TORONTO, June 28, 2005 - MCI Canada (NASDAQ: MCIP), today introduced Managed Scanning Service for business customers in Canada. Managed Scanning protects corporate networks by proactively filtering inbound email for security threats and automatically preventing tainted email from being delivered.
"Unprotected email is a risk that threatens a company's business operations, relationships, IT costs and productivity," said Robert Quance, general manager of MCI Canada. "Managed Scanning offers a cost-effective way to detect and stop infected or inappropriate email messages and spam before they touch a customer's network."
More than 90 percent of viruses enter networks through email, according to an ICSA Labs Virus Prevalence Survey conducted in the U.S. last year. Most anti-virus applications only detect "known" viruses through the use of signature files - providing no protection against new threats that can spread rapidly via email.
Managed Scanning acts as a company's first line of defense against unwanted email containing viruses, spam and inappropriate images. Because it is a managed service, companies can effectively offload this labor-intensive network administration function to MCI. The service does not require any hardware or software purchases, equipment installation, upgrades or patching, and customers bear no risk of obsolescence because the intelligence of the service resides within the MCI network.
- The Managed Scanning solution provides three-way protection: Anti-Spam Service operates at the Internet level and can dramatically reduce spam volume and provide unsurpassed filtering accuracy to help ensure end users only get the email they want from the people they know.
- Anti-Virus Service will help avert known and unknown email viruses, trojans, worms and malware threats, even during the first moments of a critical outbreak, before anti-virus signatures are available. While other anti-virus vendors may leave their customers vulnerable to new viruses for until a signature can be created, this service can recognize virus behaviour and provides zero-hour protection, stopping the threat at the Internet level before it can even reach the customer's network.
- Image Control Service is designed to identify and control inappropriate images in both inbound and outbound email. Its capabilities go beyond the flesh tone analysis of standard filters, incorporating ground-breaking Image Composition Analysis to detect unwanted images. The service allows for different sensitivity settings and routing options to match your acceptable email usage policy, helping you keep your email free of unwanted content.
MCI Canada offers a broad array of Managed Services that deliver the most advanced public or private IP-based networking, security, email and professional services to ensure that businesses stay abreast of the latest innovations in business communications technology.
