MCI Expands Internet DSL Service in Asia Pacific and into the Middle East

Businesses Gain Flexibility in Connecting Operations in the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Israel

ASHBURN, Va., August 16, 2005-MCI, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced it is
expanding Internet DSL access services in Asia Pac and into the Middle East.
Now multinational companies with operations in the People's Republic of
China, Hong Kong, Thailand, the Philippines, Australia, Singapore and Israel can utilize high-speed, always-on broadband access to connect their remote
office locations. Until now, MCI offered DSL service in Australia only.

MCI's new DSL access option helps enterprise customers connect their Asia
Pacific and Middle East offices enabling them to more easily collaborate and
access company information via cost-effective connections. These solutions complement MCI's IP access suite of services already available in these countries and are ideal for companies that want high-speed access but do not require traditional leased line Internet connectivity.

"MCI is helping companies leverage the ubiquity of the Internet to connect
offices located in emerging global business centers through an expanded
range of Internet access solutions," said Nancy Gofus, senior vice president
of MCI product management. "With DSL service in Asia Pacific and the Middle
East, MCI is enabling companies to take advantage of today's global economy."

MCI is offering broadband services locally through its agreements with
several regional providers, including Pacific Internet Ltd for connectivity
in Thailand, the Philippines, and Hong Kong; China NetCom for the People's
Republic of China and Golden Lines for connectivity in Israel. MCI's new DSL
services are available immediately with service in China and Singapore
coming online in September.

In China, MCI will offer Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) service
to most major metropolitan areas across all provinces. The service will be
available at speeds of 512 Kpbs for downloading content and 128 Kbps for
uploading files and other content. In Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong,
Thailand, and the Philippines, the speed of service will vary by location
and country with both Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL) and ADSL
service offered. In Israel, MCI provides ADSL service with speeds from 64
Kbps to 1.5 Mbps.

MCI also plans to extend its international DSL service into Malaysia and Peru over the next several months as part of its Global Business Partners
Program. Designed to introduce reliable DSL service in business centers
around the world, MCI's Global Business Partners Program gives customers a
one-stop resource and more flexibility in selecting the right Internet
access solution, while complementing MCI's suite of global Internet
services.

Today MCI offers DSL service in 14 countries across the world and IP access
in 65 countries spanning six continents including North America, Latin America, Asia, Europe, Australia and Africa.
