Ashburn, VA, March 12, 2004 - MCI today announced a settlement with the state of Oklahoma in which criminal charges filed against the company last year will be dropped.
The following statement should be attributed to Carol Ann Petren, MCI Deputy General Counsel:
"Over the course of the past six months, MCI cooperated with the Attorney General to reach an agreement for the benefit of our creditors and the state of Oklahoma. In exchange for dropping the charges against the company, MCI agreed to add 1,600 jobs over the next 10 years at its Tulsa facility, one of MCI's largest regional hubs. While the settlement contains a potential financial component tied to the job creation provisions, MCI fully intends to satisfy its agreement with the Attorney General by adding jobs in Oklahoma.
"In reaching today's settlement, the Oklahoma Attorney General acknowledged MCI has taken dramatic steps over the past year to start a new chapter in our company's history. We have hired a new CEO, recruited a new senior leadership team and appointed a new board of directors. The company is working hard to ensure that the highest standards of business ethics are maintained and a culture where honesty and integrity are valued above all else."
