MCI Supports Virginia Attorney General's Groundbreaking Effort to Fight Spam

Affirms Company Commitment to Combating Spam

BACKGROUND: Today, Virginia Attorney General Jerry Kilgore announced the indictment of one of the country's most prolific spammers. This is the first arrest under Virginia's anti-spam legislation, which took effect in July 2003. MCI worked hand in hand with law enforcement and the Attorney General's office to provide evidence that helped bring this notorious spammer to justice.

The following statement should be attributed to Craig Silliman, Director of MCI Network and Facilities Legal:

"MCI congratulates the Virginia Attorney General on this important indictment. MCI is pleased to have played a role in providing vital evidence to the AG during this criminal spam investigation.

Attorney General Kilgore's actions demonstrate that he shares MCI's strong commitment to combating spam. Passing sound spam legislation is only the first step in this fight. Vigorous enforcement of spam laws is essential to stopping spammers in their tracks. Mr. Kilgore's actions today mark an important milestone in this ongoing battle."
