MCI Systemhouse's Vision* Solutions Announces Support For Oracle 8i And Oracle Spatial

Scalability, Interoperability, Extensibility, And Internet
Features Provide Immediate Benefits

SAN FRANCISCO, Oracle Open World, November 10, 1998 -

The VISION* Solutions unit of MCI Systemhouse, MCI WorldCom's
(NASDAQ: WCOM) global information technology services company, today
announced its support for Oracle Spatial and Oracle8i, the database
for the Internet. MCI Systemhouse made the announcement here today.

These key Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) technologies combine with VISION*
to provide a new standard in enterprise-scale automated mapping,
facilities management, and geographic information systems (AM/FM/GIS)
solutions for telecommunications, utilities, and government
customers.

Oracle8i will form the database backbone of MCI Systemhouse's
VISION* 5.1, scheduled for release in Q1'99.

  • Oracle8i will enable completely standards-based Web solutions
    for VISION*Solutions customers
  • VISION* for CORBA and Oracle8i will ease and speed integration
and interoperability with legacy and ERP applications
  • Oracle8i's scalability and OLTP improvements provide
immediate performance benefits for VISION*'s largest
    deployments
  • Extensible data type services in Oracle8i will improve
performance of the VISION* Long Transaction Cartridge and enable
    functional extensions to Oracle Spatial
  • VISION* Object Views' support for Oracle Object Option and
the Object Cache technology in Oracle8i will provide enhanced
management, navigation, and performance of highly complex telecom
    and utility data models

"Oracle8i's advances in scalability and interoperability, as
well as its architecture for mission-critical Internet applications
are ground-breaking," said Richard Higgins, vice president and
general manager of the VISION* Solutions unit of MCI Systemhouse.
"Our customers, among the largest telecommunications companies
and utilities in the world, can now extend their highly scaled,
transaction processing VISION* applications to the Web."
Unlike other major GIS vendors, VISION* Solutions has focused on
optimizing and extending Oracle as its exclusive database technology
for more than 10 years. Because of its Oracle-centric architecture,
VISION* customers fully leverage the depth and breadth of
Oracle's leadership in database functionality.

VISION* 5.1 will also support Oracle Spatial. Oracle Spatial has
proven itself to be the premier OLAP spatial engine in the database
industry. This support for Oracle Spatial represents a powerful
complement to VISION*'s strengths in Oracle-based transaction
processing of highly complex facilities data.

"VISION* integration with Oracle Spatial is equally exciting,
opening the door to industry-standard access to facilities data by
any user in the enterprise," Higgins said. "Historically,
VISION* and our customers have developed some of the largest and most
information-rich facilities OLTP databases in the world. Integration
with Oracle Spatial is a natural extension to this work and, combined
with Oracle8i's Internet capabilities, opens up enormous
opportunity for our customers."

"VISION* has a long history of leadership in enterprise
deployments of Oracle-based AM/FM/GIS systems," said John Hall,
senior vice president of Worldwide Alliances, Oracle Corp. "Its
customers depend daily on highly scaled, highly available systems to
manage extremely complex data. The relationship between Oracle and
the VISION* group at MCI Systemhouse has been central to enabling
these solutions. Through VISION* support for Oracle8i and Oracle
Spatial, customers will continue to benefit from the advanced
performance, scalability and reliability features required for
Internet computing."
