MCI Teams With Verisign To Enable Customers To Use Automated Do-Not-Call Blocking Services For Telemarketing

New Service Seeks to Enable Reliable, Cost Effective Compliance with Federal Do-Not-Call Legislation ASHBURN, Va., October 29, 2003 - MCI (WCOEQ, MCWEQ) today announced that it is helping telemarketing customers meet new federal mandates for Do-Not-Call lists through a new access solution that connects to VeriSign's (Nasdaq:VRSN) TeleBlock® services. The new service provides MCI customers with access to VeriSign and Call Compliance, Inc. patented intelligent network technology to assist in complying with federal regulations. MCI's new access service enables its customers to utilize MCI's network infrastructure to connect to the TeleBlock Do-Not-Call solution to automatically screen and block calls. The TeleBlock Do-Not-Call service screens against applicable Do-Not-Call lists in order to automatically block connection of calls to telephone numbers contained in these databases. For example, telephone numbers called from an MCI supported call center using the TeleBlock service will be connected via MCI's intelligent network to the TeleBlock Do-Not-Call database prior to the call completion. If the dialed number appears on the Do-Not-Call lists, the call is automatically blocked and the telemarketer receives a "restricted-number" message. "The adoption of Do-Not-Call lists has required telemarketing companies to reevaluate the way they do business in today's marketplace," said Barry Zipp, senior director MCI Intelligent Services. "By enabling our customers to access TeleBlock Do-Not-Call services, we are proactively helping our customers comply with current state and federal regulations with minimal cost in new infrastructure and operations." "The TeleBlock Do-Not-Call service demonstrates VeriSign's ability to leverage our Internet and telecommunications infrastructure and expertise to deliver secure, highly scalable solutions that help address pressing industry needs in an innovative and unique manner," said Vernon Irvin, Executive Vice President of VeriSign Telecommunication Services. "Ours is one of the industry's first intelligent network-based solution that facilitates compliance with Do-Not-Call lists." About VeriSign
