MCI Unveils Industry's First Managed Enterprise Content Delivery Service
New Content Delivery Solution Enhances MCI's Global Managed Services Set; Enables Greater Network Utilization, Increased Reliability and Improved End-user Experience
ASHBURN, VIRGINIA, July 28, 2003 - MCI today announced that it will extend its Managed Services portfolio and leverage its extensive network assets to deliver the industry's first Managed Enterprise Content Delivery Service (ECDS). With MCI's new Managed ECDS, businesses will have an advanced platform to efficiently and cost effectively take advantage of next generation, enterprise-wide applications including streaming video and distance learning over a private computing infrastructure.
"By managing a company's advanced applications infrastructure within our network, MCI is assuming the total cost of ownership for our customers," said Jim DeMerlis, MCI vice president of Product Management. "MCI's ECDS is an intelligent service that resides in our network to simply and cost effectively deliver distributed computing capabilities, enabling companies to improve productivity and adopt new ways of doing business while holding the line on expenses."
As the only major provider delivering a managed enterprise content delivery service today, MCI is helping businesses to immediately manage corporate data transfers and the delivery of real-time or on-demand multimedia applications over an enterprise frame, IP, ATM, Private IP or private line network.
ECDS is one of the innovative, hosted intelligence offerings that MCI is bringing to market as part of its Convergence Networking strategy to ready businesses for an IP world. MCI's newest solution allows customers to save time and money by combining existing network capacity with its newly deployed distributed computing architecture to enable high bandwidth applications that would otherwise be cost prohibitive. With ECDS, bandwidth utilization becomes cost effective, helping companies to adopt new ways of doing business like online training and aiding them in streamlining business processes.
"The growing demands of enterprises to manage the availability and distribution of multimedia content are creating new challenges, as new applications enable the transfer of ever larger amounts of data over private networks," said John O'Keefe, Senior Analyst at Current Analysis. "Because the operation and management of this increasingly essential business communications function is neither simple nor inexpensive, we believe that MCI's managed Enterprise Content Distribution Service will be of interest to enterprise customers seeking a reliable content distribution solution."
MCI's end-to-end enterprise solution offers built-in security, load balancing, cache pre-population, content redirection, distribution and control. And, because it is software driven, MCI's managed ECDS can provide greater functionality and higher interoperability.
With MCI's managed ECDS, customers no longer have to manage and monitor CPE devices at remote locations. Offering optimal simplicity, the customer only needs to provide content. MCI will design, deploy, manage, maintain and monitor end-to-end its content delivery services including all essential hardware and software. MCI also provides 24x7 continuous administrator-level help desk support.
Customers will have access to a Web-based portal, where they can measure and monitor service performance of their ECDS solution and use one-of-a-kind Web-based enterprise content management and distribution tools to manage users down to the desktop level.
The ECDS is easily integrated with other MCI solutions such as its Internet colocation, Web hosting and Internet access services, offering customers the convenience and ease of a single-source provider.
