New UUNET San Jose Data Center offers enhanced colocation and complex hosting services FAIRFAX, VA., April 19, 1999 - UUNET, an MCI WorldCom division and a global leader in Internet communications solutions, today announced the opening of its San Jose, Calif. Data Center. The new data center will offer businesses enhanced colocation and complex hosting services that deliver the performance and security necessary to run business-critical applications over the World Wide Web.
Powered by UUNET's high-speed global network, the San Jose Data Center offers high bandwidth availability for maximum performance and quick scalability. Customers can choose from tiered or burstable bandwidth services. Additionally, redundant connections run from the data center to the UUNET network while continuity of electrical power to the data center is ensured by uninterruptable power supply (U.P.S.), backed by a diesel generator.
"This data center offers two significant advantages for our customers," said Dave Foster, vice president and general manager, hosting and e-commerce group, UUNET. "It will provide colocation customers in the Silicon Valley area direct access to UUNET's vast capabilities. And, for both colocation and complex hosting customers, UUNET's new data center will provide a robust option for geographically distributed server operations."
Ideal for colocation and complex hosting customers, the San Jose Data Center offers both local and geographically distributed load balancing options that enable customers to deploy scalable, fault-tolerant solutions. UUNET's local load balancing solution distributes traffic across multiple web servers while its distributed load balancing solution routes end-users to the server or servers in UUNET's nearest most available data center.
Juniper Networks, a leading provider of IP infrastructure routing devices, is one of UUNET's first San Jose Data Center customers. Juniper has deployed a complex web infrastructure by utilizing UUNET's Enterprise Class Hosting service.
"Through UUNET's world-class data center hosting capabilities, Juniper is able to manage its vital intranet, Internet and extranet applications," said John Jendricks, chief information officer, Juniper Networks. "UUNET's value-added capabilities are critical in helping us achieve our vision to provide IP infrastructure equipment to service providers for their next generation networks."
The San Jose Data Center features an on-site UUNET staff including operations personnel and engineers. Customers also have access to a fully-equipped work area with private desks, telephones and an analog connection to plan installations, check e-mail or attend to other business matters.
The data center is supported 24 x 7 by the UUNET global hosting operations center. The global hosting operations center enables UUNET to centrally manage local and remote systems from one location, resulting in consistent monitoring, services, operations and support. The mission of the hosting operations center is to provide proactive management and resolution of issues before customers are aware that a problem has occurred.
The complete line of hosting and e-commerce solutions available today includes: dedicated and shared web hosting, electronic commerce solutions, groupware and application hosting, colocation services, Hosting Professional Services, and Enterprise Class Hosting.
