MCI WorldCom Extends Reach Of Global ATM Service To Asia-Pacific Region
Company Introduces First Global ATM Service Level
Agreement
ATLANTA, July 14, 1999 -- MCI WorldCom today announced the
expansion of its Global Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Service to the
Asia-Pacific region, adding three additional countries - Hong Kong,
China; Tokyo, Japan; and Sydney, Australia. This expansion complements
the company's extensive ATM network in Europe and the U.S. MCI
WorldCom's Global ATM Service now reaches 11 countries on an
end-to-end basis.
"Multinational corporations continue to demand high bandwidth
ATM connectivity to more and more countries for their critical global
communications needs," said Jim DeMerlis, MCI WorldCom vice
president of Data and Enterprise Product Marketing. "We will
aggressively continue our global expansion plans -- further
strengthening our leadership position in the global ATM
marketplace."
The company also introduced the industry's first-ever
international ATM service level agreement (SLA) for its U.S.-based
multinational customers. The new SLA includes 100 percent network
availability and a two-hour mean time to repair for on-net customers
with MCI WorldCom local access. For international ATM customers that
are not on MCI WorldCom local access facilities, the SLA offers 99.8
percent network availability and a mean time to repair of four
hours.
ATM is a high-speed data technology designed for high performance,
efficiency and quality of service applications, driven by enterprise
requirements for distance learning, interconnection of large data
centers and Frame Relay/ATM internetworking. Government agencies,
educational institutions, medical organizations, financial
institutions, high tech companies, Internet Service Providers and
others with high bandwidth requirements are driving ATM growth.
MCI WorldCom is the premier provider of global ATM services with a
feature-rich service portfolio. MCI WorldCom is the first
facilities-based carrier to offer end-to-end international ATM service.
The global on-net ATM service is serviced by a global account
management multinational staff of 2,000 sales and support professionals
deployed around the world to provide multinational customers with
one-stop shopping and customer service.
