Customers Receive 5 Cents Every Evening During the Week and
All Weekend Long
ARLINGTON, Va., August 09, 1999 -- Building on the momentum
created by MCI 5 Cent Sundays, MCI WorldCom today announced its latest
residential calling plan -- MCI 5 Cents Everyday. Now consumers can
receive five cents per minute on all state-to-state calls, every
evening during the week and all weekend long.
MCI 5 Cents Everyday offers five cents per minute on all residential
state-to-state long-distance calls made between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
and all day Saturday and Sunday, along with weekday daytime calling for
25 cents per minute, for a monthly fee of just $1.95.
For customers who primarily call during weekday daytime hours MCI
WorldCom offers MCI 5 Cents Everyday Plus -- five cents per minute from
7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and 10 cents per minute for weekday daytime calling
for a monthly fee of just $4.95.
"With approximately 70% of all consumer long-distance calls
being made in the evenings and on weekends, MCI WorldCom is extending
the savings of MCI 5 Cent Sundays to every day of the week," said
John Donoghue, MCI WorldCom's senior vice president of consumer
marketing. "MCI 5 Cents Sundays transformed the way Americans use
their phones on Sundays -- the day Americans make the majority of their
long-distance calls. Now, MCI 5 Cents Everyday will revolutionize
calling on the other six days of the week."
Consumers are invited to sign up for MCI 5 Cents Everyday by calling
1-800-EVERYDAY.
ACCESS REDUCTIONS MAKE IT POSSIBLE
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently lowered access
charges -- those fees long-distance companies pay local phone companies
to begin and end long-distance calls. As a result, MCI WorldCom is now
able to pass those access reductions on to customers in the form of
lower rates -- five cents everyday of the week.
"As the FCC continues to force the local phone companies to
reduce access charges MCI WorldCom customers continue to see lower
long-distance rates," said Donoghue. "Access reductions,
along with maximizing our long-distance network capacity during
off-peak hours, make MCI 5 Cents Everyday a win for our customers and a
win for MCI WorldCom."
CALLING CARDS COUNT TOO
Being on the road no longer means paying a fortune to be in touch
with those you care about most. With the MCI WorldCom calling card,
customers get the same low five cents rate every evening during the
week and all weekend long on all domestic state-to-state card calls
placed to their home.
MICHAEL SAYS "LET'ER RIP!"
The new MCI 5 Cents Everyday advertising campaign, starring Michael
Jordan and the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes characters, launches today on
network and cable television. The new campaign was filmed in December
1998, animated by Warner Bros. Animation and was ready for air in
February 1999. The advertising was created by Messner Vetere Berger
McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG.
